Computer Refurbishment and Donations
The Computer Service is able to offer its services thanks to generous contributions of quality computer equipment from the Government, private businesses, and individuals from within the local community in Western Australia.
Everyone Wins
Refurbishment prolongs the life of computer equipment and TADWA assists the community by making good computers available to the less fortunate people who would not otherwise be able to afford them.
By redistributing this computer equipment we are able to assist families and individuals break down some of the barriers faced in literacy / community access / social isolation. Low income households are often not able to take advantage of technology that many of us might take for granted.
Concerned about your old data?
TADWA has access to software that is recommended by the US Department of Defence that does a three pass zero wipe of your hard disks. TADWA is committed to ensuring your data is destroyed in an efficient manner and can provide certificates of destruction (should you require). Depending on volume there may be a cost associated with this service.
Donations welcome
At TADWA we are interested in receiving good working computers that fit technology levels considered appropriate and useful to our clients. At this time we refurbish computers of low end Pentium 4 specifications and above. Anything less than that is considered inappropriate for refurbishment and is processed through a panel of reputable Ewaste recycling businesses.
We are not in a position at this time to accept computer monitors unless they are donated with a working computer that meets system specifications above. These monitors cost us in the vicinity of $15.00 each to recycle. TADWA has a very proactive approach to recycling and is working with several organizations to promote a more efficient and environmentally responsible approach to “Ewaste” management.
Community Re-Use Project (CRUP)
At TADWA we are serious about being environmentally responsible that is why we have a target of 97% either reuse or recycling of every ICT donation we receive.
The Community Reuse Project aims to divert Ewaste away from landfill by achieving a 97% recycling rate of unused ICT equipment by forming community partnerships and promoting social enterprise. This should result in all partner agencies achieving and sharing efficiencies that will benefit their respective staff/volunteers and members of their target communities.
Through this project TADWA aims to facilitate the establishment and viable operation of a community-based methodology whose core objectives include such matters as:
- “overcoming the digital divide through refurbishment and reuse of ICT and the avoidance of disposal via landfill”;
- use proprietary software (via MRR status) to continue and extend the operating life of ICT to avoid the widely accepted notion of hardware 'obsolescence', that is, extend the ‘end-life’;
- when reuse is not possible, we will disassemble and use recyclers to reclaim the materials;
- providing low cost ICT alternatives for WA business, charities and financially disadvantaged individuals;
- create employment and training opportunities for marginalised people;
- value adding to the reuse / recycling process, either by generating greater reuse or improving quality of reclamation by quality controlled disassembly of ICT.
